Jewelry Appraisals

A professional, independent appraisal from a GIA Graduate Gemologist — done with precision, explained in plain language, and delivered in a format your insurance company will accept.

An Independent Opinion You Can Trust

A jewelry appraisal is a formal, written document that identifies and values a piece of jewelry for a specific purpose — most commonly insurance replacement, estate planning, or resale. It is not a purchase offer. It is an expert's professional opinion, documented and signed.

Cat provides independent appraisals free from the conflicts of interest that can arise when a jeweler who sells jewelry also appraises it. As a gemologist, her assessments are grounded in professional training and genuine expertise.

Every appraisal includes a detailed written report, gemological testing notes, photographs, and Cat's professional signature.

How It Works

The Appraisal Process

I Schedule

Contact Cat to schedule your appraisal. Bring the piece along with any existing documentation — GIA reports, prior appraisals, or purchase receipts.

II Examination

Cat examines the piece using professional gemological instruments — loupe, microscope, refractometer, and more — to document metal, stones, and construction.

III Valuation

Drawing on current market data and professional judgment, Cat establishes the appropriate value for the appraisal's intended purpose.

IV Report Delivery

You receive a signed, dated appraisal document with full description, photographs, and valuation — accepted by major insurance carriers.

Types of Appraisals

Insurance Replacement

The most common appraisal type. Establishes the retail replacement value of a piece for insurance purposes. Required by most insurers before covering jewelry.

Estate & Fair Market

Establishes the fair market value of jewelry for estate settlements, equitable distribution, or charitable donation documentation.

Damage & Loss

Documents the value of a piece prior to damage or loss, typically for insurance claim support. Can also cover partial loss of stones or settings.
